The will to win can be a very powerful thing. Just ask Coach Jones or a stunned Georgia Tech fan. But just showing up and wanting something doesn’t equate to success. You need basic skills, coaching, and a whole lot of practice. (No trash can needed.)

“Winning” at school requires the same principles. The academic year is just beginning but the first report cards won’t be far behind. How can you help your student insure a winning year? Fortunately, we have the answer right here in Berry Farms!

The Tutoring Center is now enrolling and conducting classroom sessions for students in the south Franklin area. Center Director/Owner, Joshua Powers, has made it his life’s work to help students of all ages and abilities reach their academic goals. Joshua has a Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University and a Master’s Degree from St. John’s University. He has taught at both the high school and college level, and has worked in the learning center industry for over 5 years. His love for learning, working with students, and passion for helping families, has motivated him to provide the very best learning experiences for his students.

Joshua and his wife, Kelly, moved to Franklin in 2016. They both love living in the community because of the great families, historic downtown, beautiful weather, and gorgeous scenery. They could not think of a better place to raise their newborn baby girl, Abigail Grace.

When asked why he chose Berry Farms for his new business, Joshua said, “Berry Farms provides the high quality, fun atmosphere we were looking for. The community is tight-knit, family friendly and expected to grow tremendously in the next few years. Not to mention, it is a beautiful place, conveniently located next to I-65. We wanted to be in a nice, safe, upscale community where parents would feel comfortable dropping off their children for tutoring. Berry Farms also provides great entertainment for the community and parents alike. This makes it the perfect place for parents to drop off their child for an hour and enjoy one of the many amenities Berry Farms has to offer.”

The Tutoring Center is a unique learning center. Typically, after school learning companies work in small group settings, where students are taught with one instructor, and three to four other students. There is also no scientific foundation to enhance their concentration span. We are unique in both of these areas. The Tutoring Center follows a research based system where students receive one to one instruction, and are never placed in a group setting.

Students come to tutoring either two or three times per week for a one hour session. During the session, The Rotational Approach to Learning is used which allows students to work with multiple instructors each session, which helps students adapt to different teaching styles, all while increasing their focus. After 20 sessions, parents schedule a meeting to discuss a detailed progress report with the Head Instructor. At 40 sessions, which typically happens around 5 or 6 months after the student is enrolled, students take their Progress Test. The Tutoring Center guarantees that students will score at least one full grade level higher than their original Diagnostic Assessment.  As a company, we have a 95% success rate of meeting this goal.

They will also offer other services, like the Study Skills Seminar. Once a month, on a Friday, students from 5th-12th grade can come and learn about various topics, including, but not limited to, note taking, studying strategies, efficient homework completion, creating a distraction-free environment, calming their nerves when taking a test, stress reduction exercises, and ways to not feel overwhelmed during finals week. Our goal is to not only help students in these areas, but to also help motivate and inspire them in all areas of their academic lives and beyond.
