Farmers Market DonutsWe’ve waited all winter and finally the Farmers Market at Berry Farms is back! Market starts Tuesday, May 3rd. Hours are 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  We have a great lineup of vendors this year with some familiar faces and a few new folks. Returning is:  Gardner Grove Farms, Harris Farm,  Rosson Orchard & Farm, Ellie’s Old Fashioned Doughnuts, Hatcher Family Dairy, and Simply Traditional.  New venders are: Bones N Waffles, FireFlour, Katharos Farm, Padrinos Pops, Whit’s Frozen Custard, and Just Because. Other vendors will also be joining us periodically, including Bluegrass Kettle Masters, Carol’s Vibration, Kelley’s Berry Farm, The Barkers Market, The Olive Tree Bakery, and Virginia’s Orchard and Farm. This year the market will be set up in the grassy area by the lake, in front of Berry Farms Wine and Spirits. The Strawberry Festival will be Tuesday, May 24th and promises to be great fun for the entire family. More to come on that…

If you haven’t been to a farmers market in a while, we have some great tips to remember:

  • Bring cash, preferably small bills. Most vendors only take cash and will appreciate not having to make lots of change.
  • Bring your own bag. You know you have a cute bag sitting around just waiting to be used. If not, buy a Berry Farms Farmers Market Bag at the Strawberry Festival.
  • Take your time. Spend some time walking around looking at all your options and talk to the farmers about what makes their selections special. The farmers are passionate about what they do and love to share their knowledge and even their favorite recipes.2015-05-19 16.45.10
  • Know what’s in season. You might be disappointed if you are looking for a fresh-picked tomato at this week’s market. Local farmers markets offer the freshest produce grown right here in our area. Knowing what is in season before you go will help you know what to expect – and not be disappointed when you don’t see that tomato. Picktnproducts.org is a great website to find out what is in season for the Tennessee climate.

Hope this helps you plan your trip! See you at the market!
